Quick response Team for rescue and relief

With the onset of the northeast monsoon and the formation of a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal, Chennai and the surrounding districts are bracing for extremely heavy rainfall over the coming days. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast widespread rainfall over north Tamil Nadu leading to the potential flooding of several low-lying areas. The red alert issued predicts that rainfall exceeding 20 cm will affect Chennai and nearby districts.

In response to this imminent threat, Mastermind Foundation has swiftly mobilized its Quick Reaction Team on Wheels to provide life-saving support to flood-stricken areas. Our team includes skilled fishermen with boats, all-terrain vehicles, and dedicated volunteers, all ready to rescue people stranded by the rising floodwaters.

Readiness for Rescue Operations

  • Boats and Vehicles: Our team is equipped with mechanized boats and high-clearance vehicles capable of navigating through flooded streets and severely inundated areas.
  • Fishermen Volunteers: Experienced fishermen from local coastal communities are part of the team, lending their knowledge and expertise to ensure the safety and timely rescue of those affected.
  • Real-Time Coordination: We are working closely with local authorities and using weather forecast data to direct our operations to areas most vulnerable to flooding.

Cook Houses

To provide immediate relief to the flood-affected public, Mastermind Foundation has activated three community Cook Houses strategically located across the city, ensuring that food is readily available to those in need. These Cook Houses are providing breakfast and dinner for displaced families, individuals, and volunteers involved in the rescue operations.

Locations of Active Cook Houses:

  1. Santhome Cook House – Serving hot meals to residents affected by rising waters along the coastline of north Chennai.
  2. New Perungalathur Cook House – Assisting residents in south Chennai areas experiencing severe flooding.

Each Cook House is equipped to serve Five Thousand of meals daily and will remain operational until the situation stabilizes. Our volunteers are committed to ensuring no one goes hungry during this challenging time. If time demands more cook house will be activated.
