One phone call can connect a person in crisis to a caring professional who understands what they are going through.
Lives at Risk: Gaps in Mental Health Support
What makes this crisis even more grave is the gap in mental health support and infrastructure. When people in distress reach out for help, too often they find little to no support available. Several critical challenges compound the problem:
The problem is dire
Every year, more than 170,000 people in India die by suicide – roughly 467 lives lost each day. This heartbreaking statistic includes a disproportionate number of young people – suicide is now the leading cause of death among Indian youth aged 15–39. India accounts for 36% of the world’s suicide deaths despite having only 17% of the global population. These numbers are more than statistics – they represent real sons, daughters, friends, and colleagues. The crisis is both national and deeply personal, touching countless families and communities.
tamilnadu is in deep trouble
In Tamil Nadu, the situation is especially dire. Our state has the second-highest number of suicides in India, with over 19,000 lives lost to suicide every year. That’s an unimaginable number of families in grief and futures cut short in a single state. It is a silent epidemic that continues to grow in urgency.
How JeevanLine Works
When someone calls JeevanLine, they will be greeted by a trained counselor who is also a professional psychologist. Our counselors work in shifts to ensure there is always someone available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – no call will ever go unanswered Importantly, callers have the option to speak in Tamil or English, so language is never a barrier to receiving help. Whether it’s 3 PM or 3 AM, whether the caller is most comfortable in Tamil or in English, JeevanLine will be there to listen and help guide them through the crisis.
Confidential and Caring
Every conversation on JeevanLine is completely confidential. We understand the courage it takes to reach out for help, and we honor that by providing a safe, non-judgmental space for callers to share their pain. Privacy and trust are paramount – callers can speak freely, knowing their identity and stories are protected. Additionally, we maintain strict quality standards: each counselor is not only highly qualified but also undergoes regular training and supervision.

Our Impact
Mastermind Foundation brings over a decade of experience and an unwavering commitment to this mission. In our work to date, we have directly saved more than 4,500 lives from suicide and delivered over 180,000 minutes of counseling support to individuals in crisis. Each of those minutes represents a compassionate conversation that helped someone choose to keep living. Each life saved is a testament to what dedicated intervention can achieve. We have seen teenagers step back from the brink because someone was there to listen; we have watched families heal because a loved one got the help they needed. These achievements have only strengthened our resolve to reach even more people who need help.
